CKTB-NEws- Mac U Strike

McMaster University could become the next school to be hit with labour problems.

After declaring an impasse at the bargaining table, the union representing close to 3,000 teaching assistants, research assistants, tutors and markers at McMaster has decided to seek a No Board Report from the provincial Labour Ministry.

That means the workers will be in a legal strike or lockout position by the end of November which could disrupt final exam and grades for thousands of students at the school.

CUPE Local 3906 President Nathan Todd says "the school's refusal to bargain seriously with academic staff has left us no choice but to declare an impasse with our employer."

Todd adds “The Ford Conservatives are accelerating what has been more than two decades of attacks on quality education, increased precarity and wage erosion that have been the hallmark of post-secondary education in Ontario. Our members are saying ‘enough is enough."
