It's a big day for film lovers in Canada as the Toronto International Film Festival officially kicks off.

For the first time, the festival will open with a Canadian documentary tonight - 'Once Were Brothers: Robbie Robertson and The Band' at Roy Thompson Hall.

The film is inspired by Robertson's 2016 memoir, 'Testimony' and includes interviews with Eric Clapton, Bruce Springsteen and more.

Niagara Falls will also get a close up during TIFF with the psychological thriller 'Clifton Hill' opening tonight at the Ryerson Theatre.

Other big films this year include 'A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood' starring Tom Hanks as Mr. Rogers, World War II satire 'JoJo Rabbit', political thriller 'The Report', Joaquin Phoenix's 'Joker', and the whodunit 'Knives Out'

TIFF runs until September 15th.
