VIA cancels passenger train service in Ontario again today
If you were planning to board a VIA train today between Toronto and Montreal or Toronto and Ottawa you are out of luck.
Both VIA and CN have cancelled passenger and freight service because of rail line blockades in Ontario and B.C.
The protests come after RCMP in B.C. arrested demonstrators trying to stop a gas pipeline from being built on Wet'suwet'en territory.
As a show of solidarity members of the Mohawks of Tyen-din-aga have set up along rail tracks near Belleville.
Yesterday, the OPP warned the demonstrators to clear the area, which is a major rail corridor, or face a raid and arrests.
Via Rail says it has cancelled 157 trips on the Toronto-to-Montreal corridor as of yesterday morning, impacting over 24,000 passengers.
