26-year-old woman deceased after Edmundston incident: police

Edmundston Police say a 26-year-old woman has died after an incident in the city early Thursday morning.

A release states officers were asked to check on the well-being of a woman at an apartment building around 2:30 a.m.

Police say the responding officer was confronted with a woman holding a knife who made threats.

The release says the officer discharged a firearm and, although resuscitation attempts were made, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy has been scheduled and the investigation is ongoing.

Edmundston Police say they have requested an agency to conduct a review of the incident to ensure the officer's actions were appropriate and conform to policing standards.

The New Brunswick RCMP is providing investigative and forensic support to the review of the incident.
