Rapids take centre Roy third overall in MHL entry draft
With the third overall pick in the 2020 MHL entry draft, the Grand Falls Rapids selected center Antoine Roy.
16-year-old Roy of Bathurst posted 12 goals and 22 assists for 34 points with Rothesay Netherwood of the Midwest Prep Hockey League last season.
With the second pick of Round 2, the Rapids took Moncton native Jeremie Gagnon (C) from the Stanstead College Spartans, with Cameron MacLean (LW) of New Haven, P.E.I. selected in the third round.
Quispamsis native Ethan Dollement (D) was selected in the fourth round and Grand Falls took Halifax, N.S. native Giovacchino DiMattia (G) in Round 5.
In the sixth round, the Rapids selected Simon Hughes (LW) of Stratford, P.E.I, followed by Memramcook's Jonathan Cormier (D) in Round 7.
Kentville, N.S. native Samuel Beaton (C) went to Grand Falls in Round 8, with the team selecting Hunter Garthley (D) of Red Bridge in the ninth round.
Grand Falls had two tenth round picks, acquiring Dekon Randall-Snow (G) of St. John's N.L. and Patrice Leblanc (C) of Shediac.
There were 120 players selected in the MHL Draft, which was held online this year due to COVID-19.
