Freddie Mercury Is 2019's Most-Searched Artist On Google

The late Freddie Mercury was the most-searched music artist in 2019, according to Google.

The Queen singer, who died in 1991, was likely the subject of curiosity following the success of Bohemian Rhapsody during awards season early this year.

Disgraced R&B singer R. Kelly was No. 2 thanks to several arrests in 2019.

Breakout artist Billie Eilish ranked third, followed by Mötley Crüe, 21 Savage, A$AP Rocky, Lil Nas X, Cody Simpson, Lizzo and Aaron Carter.

According to Google, the song Canadians searched most often for this year was “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X. “Shallow” by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper was second, followed by Ariana Grande’s “7 rings,” the Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello duet “Señorita” and Lewis Capaldi’s “Someone You Loved.”

The rest of the Top 10 song searches were: “Sunflower” (Post Malone & Swae Lee), Lose You To Love Me (Selena Gomez), Truth Hurts (Lizzo), Bad Guy (Billie Eilish) and Bury A Friend (Billie Eilish).

When Canadians turned to Google for answers to their questions, several music-related ones were among the year’s 10 most popular – including “Why did the Jonas Brothers break up?” and “How old is Dolly Parton?”

South of the border, R. Kelly was 2019’s most-searched music artist, followed by 21 Savage, Billie Eilish, Lil Nas X, A$AP Rocky, Mötley Crüe, Lizzo, Gladys Knight, Tekashi 69 and Joy Villa. (R. Kelly and 21 Savage also made the list of the 10 most-searched people.)

Globally, the list of most-searched people overall includes Billie Eilish (No. 6) and R. Kelly (No. 8) and “Old Town Road” was the song people Googled the most.
