Slipknot, Evanescence Forced To Scrap Performances In Mexico

Slipknot and Evanescence were forced to scrap their performances at a music festival in Mexico City on Saturday night – prompting a few angry fans to storm the stage.

“Safety – especially the safety of our fans and fellows bands – is priority number one,” read a message shared on Slipknot’s social media. “If we could have fixed the barricade correctly, we would have gone onstage.”

In a video message on Instagram, Amy Lee of Evanescence said: “We are so, so disappointed that we didn’t get our chance to play for you tonight at Knotfest … because of a safety issues with the barricades. We are so sorry. We love you so much.”

The Knotfest Mexico line-up at Parque Deportivo Oceania included Behemoth, Godsmack and Bullet For My Valentine.

Upon hearing of the cancellations, a handful of fans threw objects on stage. One young man got on stage and threw Evanescence’s drum kit onto the field, where it was set ablaze.

“We had hoped to be able to perform today,” Slipknot tweeted on Sunday, “but regrettably, a situation arose onstage after the cancellation that damaged or destroyed gear that would have been necessary to play.”

One festival-goer tweeted: “This doesn't represent metalheads nor Mexicans. Only f**king morons that can't behave properly.”
