Acadie-Bathurst MP: No plans to delay opening closing dates for NB fishing industry yet

Acadie-Bathurst MP Serge Cormier

The federal government says there are no plans to delay opening and closing dates for New Brunswick's fishing industry.

Acadie-Bathurst MP Serge Cormier says there are, so far, no changes planned for opening and closing dates in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Though several industries, including fisheries, are facing a serious decline in exports, Cormier says there continues to be demand for Canadian products and that Ottawa is working with the US to ensure trade continues.

As the impact of COVID-19 continues to evolve, Cormier says any decisions going forward will be made only after consulting with industry partners, adding the health and safety of Canadians continues to be government's top priority.
