Final payment to Francophonie Games committee was just last one scheduled, says N.B. government
It turns out the provincial government didn't cut funding to the organizing committee for the 2021 Francophonie Games.
Government's Stephanie Bilodeau says last month's payment was always going to be the final payment and that requests for further funding would be considered in the 2019-20 budget, contingent on the fate of the event.
The Games are slated to take place in Moncton and Dieppe and the cost to hold it ballooned from $17 million to a whopping $130 million.
The Higgs government said it wouldn't pay more than the $10 million it had already committed.
The province could be on the hook for millions if the Games are cancelled altogether.
