Vitalite Health Network receives approval for genetic medicine program
New Brunswick's health department has approved a request by the Vitalite Health Network for a provincial mandate to create a genetic medicine program for all New Brunswickers.
Vitalite President & CEO Gilles Lanteigne delivered the news at the network's board meeting in Moncton on Tuesday.
Lanteigne says the network's Strategic Plan for 2017 to 2020 includes the creation of such a program and the expanded delivery of specialized medical professional services.
He says a geneticist and a genetics counsellor have been hired and that the program will strengthen the network's expertise in genetic medicine.
An operational plan now needs to be submitted to the Department of Health to ensure the new program is implemented properly.
The Horizon Health Network, along with the Maritime Medical Genetics Service of the IWK Health Centre are partners in this project and will be consulted as the plan is developed.
