Fredericton Police identify human remains found at landfill site

Fredericton Police Force

The Fredericton Police Force say the human remains found at the Solid Waste Commission on Alison Boulevard on Tuesday have been identified as 55-year old Jeffrey Peter Kroon of Fredericton.

Police say in a press release that they believe Kroon was transported to the landfill site in a garbage truck after being in a commercial garbage bin.

They state that the autopsy results and information gathered thus far lead them to believe foul play was not involved.

Fredericton Police add that they say with relative certainty that Kroon had not been living on the street, or been sleeping in a dumpster, and that he had a warm, dry place to stay.

They're now urging the public to consider locking commercial garbage bins to discourage people from getting inside.

Anyone with information in this matter, or who may have seen Kroon between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m. on Tuesday in the area of Dundonald, Aberdeen, Regent, and York streets is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.

Fredericton Police say they've received other reports of people being in dumpsters, and note that there are many community agencies to support those that may require services related to addictions, mental health, and living situations.
