Inmate assaulted at Atlantic Institution

CSC

Correctional Service Canada (CSC) says two inmates were involved in an assault at Atlantic Institution in Renous.

A release says the incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. on September 4 and the injured inmates were evaluated by staff before being transported to an outside hospital to receive treatment.

No staff members or other inmates were injured.

CSC says it has identified the inmates involved and appropriate action has been taken, and an investigation is underway in conjunction with the Blackville Detachment of the RCMP.

Further, a lockdown and exceptional search was issued by the Warden for part of the maximum-security federal institution and will remain in place until it is deemed safe for it to be lifted.

Normal operations are affected during the lockdown and regularly scheduled visits may be affected and visitors who have already planned visits are asked to call ahead before traveling to the institution.
