NB Medical Society: Province needs to be aggressive to recruit new doctors

The New Brunswick Medical Society says the province needs to be aggressive to recruit new doctors.

The province is currently short 94 doctors, leaving 34,000 New Brunswickers on a waiting list for a family physician.

Society president Dr. Serge Melanson tells the Times & Transcript that increasing New Brunswick's social media presence and building a better website could help recruit more physicians.

Health minister Ted Flemming meanwhile, says government needs to be creative to make working in New Brunswick appealing.

Flemming says nurse practitioners can help with the doctor shortage, especially in rural areas.
