The New Brunswick government has released its annual report on the water quality in its lakes and rivers.

The report, entitled 'The State of Water Quality in New Brunswick’s Lakes and Rivers: Water Quality Monitoring Results 2003-2016' , was released on Tuesday and is a summary of water quality results from a network of 55 river monitoring stations.

It offers a brief overview of water quality issues observed in the province's surface waters like invasive species and algae blooms.

Environment and Local Government Minister Jeff Carr is the report is one way the government is ensuring communities will be vibrant and sustainable for generations to come.

Carr says the province is committed to working alongside watershed groups, stakeholders and First Nations to undertake water quality monitoring and support restoration actions to ensure the continued water quality in New Brunswick's lakes and rivers.

The full report can be viewed on the government's website.
