Quebec-based Ocean Groups plans to sue province over attempted seizure of dry dock

news-update

A Quebec company that was operating out of the New Brunswick Naval Centre in Bas-Caraquet is planning to take the New Brunswick government to court.

Ocean Group had planned to tow a floating dry dock from the centre to Quebec for completion, saying it couldn't find local electricians to do the work.

The province tried to seize the dry dock but a Federal Court judge ruled Thursday that it couldn't.

The company says the province acted in bad faith when it turned to the courts prevent the dock from leaving Bas-Caraquet.

But premier Blaine Higgs tells CBC that Ocean Group got a great deal and had no right to complain.

The federal judge also ordered Ocean Group to pay the province $260,000 in bail for the equipment.
