Rain, snow mix with changing temperatures this weekend

Environment Canada says New Brunswickers should prepare for a mixed bag of precipitation and fluctuating temperatures Saturday and Sunday.

In a Special Weather Statement issued around 4:40 a.m. Friday, forecasters say temperatures are expected to reach the freezing mark today and then far exceed it on Saturday.

Rain will spread throughout the province on Saturday, but as temperatures fall quickly, the rain will change to freezing rain, ice pellets and snow Saturday night and Sunday.

The weather agency says freezing rain could continue for a significant period over southwestern areas of the province.

Environment Canada says significant impacts from these changing precipitation types are possible, but it is too soon to provide specific details about what amounts to expect.
