Temporary closure of Obstetrics Unit at Upper River Valley Hospital
The Horizon Health Network has announced two temporary closures of the Obstetrics Unit at Upper River Valley Hospital in the coming days.
In a release, the Health Network says the unit will be closed as follows:
- Friday October 4 at 6:00 a.m. to Monday October 7 at 8:00 a.m.
- Wednesday October 9 from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Babies will not be able to be delivered at the facility during the closures, as there will be no surgeon with the capability to perform an emergency caesarian section (C-section) available.
A release says even if a pregnant woman feels she is at low risk and does not require a C-section, she must still travel to Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton or the Edmundston Regional Hospital to give birth as emergency situations can quickly arise.
Horizon says all expectant mothers that are at least 35 weeks pregnant have been contacted by obstetrics nursing staff.
