Citizen calls OPP to vehicle crashed in ditch on Hwy.401, impaired driver charged

Officers of the Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say they have charged a woman with impaired driving after she ended up in a ditch. Police say they were able to respond to this incident in time, thanks to a concerned citizen.
OPP explained that they responded to the citizen call on November 9th, 2023 around 1:40 a.m. Officers were called to respond to a traffic complaint of a vehicle that was in the ditch on Highway 401 westbound just east of the Switzerville Road exit.
According to an OPP release, the citizen was driving by and noticed a vehicle in the ditch with its lights on and called 911. Police arrived on the scene and located the vehicle, driver and one passenger. Police say the officers also located alcohol in the vehicle. Additionally, the driver of the vehicle was showing signs of impairment and an Approved Screening Device (ASD) was administered. The driver was subsequently arrested.
As a result of this incident and investigation, OPP has charged 25-year-old Isabelle Cardinal-Racine from Longueuil, Quebec with driving while impaired.
OPP says the accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee at a later date. The accused's licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
