Impaired Pembroke driver charged stopping vehicle in live traffic lane in Whitewater Region

A local area resident is facing Criminal Code (CC) impaired driving charges after Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated a suspicious vehicle report in the Whitewater Region.

OPP explained that they received the call on the afternoon of October 13th, 2023, calling for officers to investigate a suspicious vehicle parked on Zion Line in Whitewater Region. Officers were able to locate the occupied vehicle parked in a live lane on the Zion Line. 

Officers at the scene say as part of the investigation a Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST) was conducted, and further testing was conducted by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) officer at the detachment. During the investigation, police say that officers seized drugs, drug paraphernalia, and brass knuckles.   

As a result of the investigation, the person behind the wheel, 33-year-old John Lawerence Schultz, from Pembroke was arrested and charged with the following offences:

- Operation while impaired - drugs
- Possession of a prohibited device
- Possession of a schedule I substance - methamphetamine

OPP say as a result of this, the accused had their driver's licence suspended for 90 days and their vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days. The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on November 21st, 2023.
