One dead, families displaced after massive fire near Cornwall, Ont.

Members of the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have located what has been confirmed by the Office of the Chief Coroner to be human remains at the scene of a massive fire in Cornwall.
OPP explained that around 7:30 a.m. on the morning of November 9th, 2023, officers responded, alongside fire and emergency services, to the area in South Glengarry Township where multiple residences were on fire. As a result of the massive fire, more than 10 residences were evacuated.
The Township of South Glengarry is providing support for families that have been displaced by the fires. Additionally, the Township has set up a family reunification centre at Paul Rozon Memorial Park.
There are no details at this time on the cause of the fires.
Members of the SD&G Detachment, with assistance from the OPP's Emergency Response Team (ERT), Forensic Identification Services (FIS) and the SD&G Crime Unit, continue to investigate the fire. They say this will remain ongoing with the assistance of the Ontario Office of the Fire Marshall and the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
