OPP investigating death near Golden Lake, no threat to public safety

The Killaloe Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) says they are investigating a death on the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan Ontario First Nation Territory, near Golden Lake.

OPP officers say they were called to a residence on Kagagimin Inamo shortly after 7:00 p.m. on November 6th, 2023 where one person was located deceased.

Police explain that while the cause of death has not yet been confirmed, investigators believe there is no imminent threat to public safety. The OPP does remind everyone to be aware of their personal safety at all times.

The investigation is being conducted by the Renfrew County Crime Unit, OPP Forensic Identification Services, members of the Killaloe Detachment, under the direction of the Criminal Investigation Branch, with assistance from the OPP Provincial Liaison Team and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

OPP says the investigation is in its early stages and no further details can be released at this time. They add that residents of the area should expect to see a large police presence in the area while the investigation continues.
