Brett Kissel Completes 8 Drive-In Concerts
Canadian country star Brett Kissel performed eight sold-out concerts in Edmonton over the weekend for fans who watched from inside their vehicles.
The drive-in shows outside the River Cree Resort and Casino raised funds for Food Banks Alberta.
5 down.. 3 to go.. Today’s show, dedicated to and exclusively for First Responders, Frontline Workers, etc., was out of this world! 12 noon felt like 12 midnight. Sunday afternoon felt like a Friday night. How is that even possible? Thank you all for an unforgettable show!! pic.twitter.com/klaUrpbSRa— B R E T T K I S S E L (@BrettKissel) June 14, 2020
“Absence makes the heart grow fonder and I’ve missed my band,” said Kissel, who was separated from the musicians by Plexiglas partitions.
“I’m going to soak in this moment for all it’s worth.”
Kissel also soaked in the rain, which came down during some of his sets.
“HOLY $H!T IT RAINED!!! But we still partied,” he tweeted Sunday. “I want to thank everyone so so so much for sticking with me and making a memory that’ll last a lifetime!!”
HOLY $H!T IT RAINED!!! But we still partied... and I want to thank everyone so so so much for sticking with me and making a memory that’ll last a lifetime!! Our 11PM show is still gonna happen (even though it’s probably gonna rain 🌧 too!) I don’t care. I’ll sing in the rain! pic.twitter.com/jntPeo8VP0— B R E T T K I S S E L (@BrettKissel) June 15, 2020
At each hour-long show, fewer than 200 vehicles full of fans watched Kissel perform while listening to the sound via FM radio. Instead of cheers and applause there was horn honking.
As per Alberta Health Services, fans were not permitted to leave their vehicles – not even to use washrooms.
“This will be a memory that we’ll never forget,” Kissel siad. “This will be a story that we tell future generations.”
Kissel will do three drive-in concerts in Regina on June 20.
