Ed Sheeran on Friday broke a record that has been held for eight years by U2.
Performing the 246th show of his ÷ Tour at Messegelände in Hannover, Germany, Sheeran surpassed the $735.4 million U.S. gross U2 earned on its 360 Tour in 2011.
According to Pollstar, ÷ is now the highest-grossing tour of all time.
“This is amazing! I feel very lucky to have experienced all of the wonderful countries and crowds over the past two-and-a-half years,” Sheeran said, in a statement. “Thank you to the fans and everyone who made it possible.”
The ÷ Tour began on March 16, 2017 in Italy and included 11 concerts in seven Canadian cities. It wraps up with four nights in Ipswich, England (Aug. 23-26). Pollstar figures that 8.5 million fans will have seen Sheeran at 255 shows.
