Ed Sheeran quietly gifted his former high school roughly $290,000 over a two-year period, according to UK tabloid The Sun.
“Pupils and staff at this school are fortunate to have a benefactor who knows and appreciates the value of the arts in education,” said Richard Hanley of Thomas Mills School in Suffolk, England. “How important they are and how they can indeed change lives.”
Sheeran’s donations were used to purchase soundproofing and recording software for the music department as well as MacBooks, cameras and photography equipment.
According to The Sun, Sheeran has donated more than $1.7 million to various community initiatives and charities in Suffolk. Last year, the Sunday Times named Sheeran the richest UK musician under 30, with an estimated $340 million worth.
