Fans Call For Rihanna To Become Barbados Head Of State

Could Rihanna become Barbados’ next head of state?

The island nation announced this week it plans to mark the 55th anniversary of its independence next year by ditching the monarchy and becoming a republic.

“Barbadians want a Barbadian Head of State,” governor general Sandra Mason, speaking for the government of prime minister Mia Mottley, said in a throne speech. “This is the ultimate statement of confidence in who we are and what we are capable of achieving.”

Rihanna, who hails from Barbados, fans were quick to suggest the singer as a replacement for Queen Elizabeth.

“It’s time for the rightful queen to sit upon her throne,” read one tweet. Another urged the country to “make Rihanna, a true Bajan queen, head of state.”

One fan tweeted: “I wouldn’t have Lizzy as my head of state either when Rihanna is an option.” Another weighed in: “I know I’m not from Barbados, so my opinion doesn’t really count, but I’d like to nominate @rihanna as Barbadian Head of State.”

One tweet simply stated: "They really should make Ms. Robyn Rihanna Fenty head of state because duh.”

Here’s a look at some more calls for Rihanna to take over from Queen Elizabeth.
