Country singer Gord Bamford last month distributed $100,080.74 to several mental health charities in his home province, Alberta.
The cash came from drive-in concerts Bamford performed this summer in Calgary, Grand Prairie, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat and Red Deer. The shows were sponsored by ATB Financial.
“In the months following the initial stages of quarantine, it became pretty obvious that people, not just those in the music industry were seriously missing live entertainment,” Bamford explained, in a release.
“It helps us all getting back out there – the fans, the crew, and ultimately the mental health charities that are providing a crucial service for our communities right here at home.”
Bamford called it “a true blessing” to be able to perform socially-distanced concerts during the COVID-19 crisis and said he is looking forward to doing more shows.
