Halsey Reacts To Becoming Best-Selling Poet

Halsey said late Thursday she is “kind of in shock” after learning she is officially a best-selling poet.

The 26-year-old pop star’s book I Would Leave Me If I Could: A Collection of Poetry is currently No. 2 in the Hardcover Fiction section of The New York Times Best Sellers List, between novels by popular authors Michael Connelly and John Grisham. In the Combined Print & E-Book Fiction section, it ranks No. 6.

“Accolades are sometimes based on weird algorithms and viral hits and luck. But sometimes they are based on a true human connection to the art,” Halsey wrote in a message to fans she shared on social media.

“This is faceless. I am not sexy, or loud, or charismatic for this art. I am sad, and frustrated with myself, and trying to decide which memories scald me the least to touch. Or perhaps which ones do the most.”

The singer said she hopes fans are finding themselves in her words. “I hope you find a loving embrace,” she wrote.

I Would Leave Me If I Could was published Nov. 10.
