'Jagged Little Pill' Earns 15 Tony Awards Nominations


Jagged Little Pill, the Broadway show based on Ottawa-born singer Alanis Morissette’s 1995 breakout album, leads the way in nominations for the 74th Tony Awards.

The production, which opened on Dec. 5, 2019 and ran until COVID-19 forced the lights to go dark in March, earned a whopping 15 nominations, including Best Musical and Best Book of a Musical (for Diablo Cody).

Cast members Elizabeth Stanley, Derek Klena, Sean Allan Krill, Kathryn Gallagher, Celia Rose Gooding and Lauren Patten are nominated for their performances.

Jagged Little Pill is also up for Best Scenic Design of a Musical (Riccardo Hernández, Lucy Mackinnon), Costume Design of a Musical (Emily Rebholz), Lighting Design of a Musical (Justin Townsend), Sound Design of a Musical (Jonathan Deans), Direction of a Musical (Diane Paulus), Choreography (Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui) and Orchestrations (Tom Kitt).

In the Best Musical category, Jagged Little Pill is competing against Tina - The Tina Turner Musical and Moulin Rouge! The Musical.

Jagged Little Pill features tracks from the album like “Hand in My Pocket” and “You Oughta Know” as well as other Morissette songs.

This year's Tony Awards were postponed due to the pandemic and a new date for the show has not yet been announced. Broadway shows are not expected to resume until at least mid-2021.
