Janelle Monáe Among Music Artists On 2020 'Out100' List
Nearly a dozen music artists, including Janelle Monáe and Lizzo, made the 2020 Out100 List, which was published Thursday morning.
The 26th annual list by Out magazine recognizes “members of the LGBTQ+ community for their groundbreaking, ripple-inducing, and culture-shifting impact around the world.”
Monáe, who came out publicly in 2018, told Out she hopes that when people “talk about their sexuality and being queer, being gay, or being who they are, they can talk about it, not out of fear, but out of love and celebration for who they are.”
She added: “If people look at me as that beacon of hope, that’s great, but I always tell people don’t feel any pressure to be me. Take your time.”
Lizzo and singer-actor Cheyenne Jackson also made this year’s list, as well as a number of less mainstream artists, including teen rapper Kidd Kenn, Spanish singer Pablo Alborán and Mashrou Leila frontman Hamed Sinno.
The Out100 List also includes actor Wilson Cruz, Apple CEO Tim Cook, journalist Rachel Maddow, Riverdale star Lili Reinhart, singer-actress Keke Palmer and Canadian actor François Arnaud.
