Kacey Musgraves has debuted “justified,” the second taste of her fourth non-holiday studio album star-crossed.
The 15-track collection – her first album since 2018’s award-winning Golden Hour – was recorded in Nashville and produced by Ian Fitchuk and Daniel Tashian. It is set to drop on Sept. 10 along with a 50-minute streaming film directed by Bardia Zeinali.
According to a release, the album is structured as “a modern-day tragedy in three acts” that “tells an extremely personal journey of heartache and healing.”
On “justified,” the country star sings about her split last year from husband Ruston Kelly.
“If I cried just a little and then laughed in the middle / If I hate you, and I love you, and I change my mind,” sings Musgraves. “If I need just a little more time to deal with the fact that you should have treated me right / Then I’m more than just a little justified.”
