Kanye West Sued By Opera Workers

Kanye West has been accused of owing “unpaid wages” and failing to pay minimum wage and overtime when he hosted a series of shows last November.

According to The Blast, the rap star and promoter Live Nation are defendants in a $1 million U.S. lawsuit filed by a group of people who worked on the Kanye West Nebuchadnezzar Opera at the Hollywood Bowl.

The lawsuit alleges West and Live Nation“failed to properly compensate … dozens of other persons who performed services on the production, including the background actors, performing as audience members.”

It seeks “unpaid wages, continuing wages, damages, civil penalties, statutory penalties and attorney's fees and costs.”

West, who did not appear in the shows, has not yet responded to the lawsuit.

Reviews of the Kanye West Nebuchadnezzar Opera were harsh. The Guardian opined: “With its ramshackle delivery, halting Bible readings and thunderous choir, Nebuchadnezzar is an outlandish, self-regarding spectacle.”
