Kelly Clarkson, Kacey Musgraves and Zedd are among the music stars sharing their outrage at video showing a 75-year-old activist being pushed to the pavement by an officer with the Buffalo Police Department.
“To every single cop in this video that walked by that poor man bleeding out of his head after he was OBVIOUSLY pushed, WHY ARE YOU A COP???!!!!!,” the singer tweeted.
“To all the great cops out there, CALL THESE SORRY EXCUSE FOR HUMANS OUT!!”
The video shows an officer – later identified as Aaron Torgalski – push Martin Gugino out of his way holding a baton with both hands. The senior’s head hits the pavement.
“NOT ONE of those cops knew anything in that moment other than an elderly man was pushed down and now there’s blood on the ground and he could be dying,” Clarkson fumed. “Unless these are special, magical cops that know all.”
The department has suspended Torgalski and fellow officer John Losi pending an investigation.
Gugino was listed in serious but stable condition at Erie County Medical Center on Thursday night.
Hours before he was shoved to the ground, Gugino tweeted: “I think it's fair to say that the Trump presidency has been a complete failure. The Democrats could have helped more. Have to say that.”
Country singer Kacey Musgraves said in a tweet that she called Buffalo Police to demand Torgalski be fired. “It is blatant police aggression and intent to harm,” she fumed in a statement. “I demand that charges be pressed against the officers involved. They should NOT be allowed to keep OR return to their jobs and should be charged and prosecuted tot he fullest extent of the law for excessive use of violence.”
Zedd also called fore Tolgalski to be “fired and charged immediately.”
In an apparently reference to U.S. president Donald Trump, LL Cool J retweeted the clip and captioned it: “THIS IS WHAT HE THINKS LAW & ORDER LOOKS LIKE…..”
