LeAnn Rimes has bared all to draw attention to a skin condition she has had since she was a child.
The 38-year-old singer stripped down for a pair of photos she shared on Instagram that show her body dotted with small red patches caused by psoriasis.
“Music has been my gift, and why I’m here. But I want to give a voice to these other pieces of me. And I want to give a voice to what so many other people are going through,” Rimes wrote. “This is finally my time to be unabashedly honest about what psoriasis is and what it looks like.”
In an essay for Glamour, Rimes recalled the steps she took to hide her condition from fans. "Onstage I’d often wear two pairs of pantyhose or jeans—even in 95-degree heat," she recalled. "Underneath my shirt, my whole stomach would be covered in thick scales that would hurt and bleed. For so much of my life, I felt like I had to hide."
Rimes previously opened up about her psoriasis in a 2009 issue of Shape.
She blamed he stress of 2020 for causing her psoriasis to flare up for the first time in 16 years.
“We’re at a moment in time right now when we’re all being stripped of everything we thought we needed — and now we can see how worthy and good enough we are without all of the bulls**t,” she wrote.
“We’re worthy without the makeup and the artifice. We’re worthy of love without having to work for it. And that’s why I’m tired of hiding.”
Rimes has been married for nine years to actor Eddie Cibrian, a former member of Canadian boy band 3Deep. Her new iHeartRadio podcast Wholly Human, which explores mental health and wellness, launches on Nov. 30.
