An Illinois man died after falling out of a mosh pit during a performance by Slipknot on Sunday night.
Richard Valadez, 62, was at the Knotfest Roadshow at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre in Tinley Park, about 48 km outside Chicago. Witnesses told Patch that Slipknot was playing “Sulfur” when Valadez was hit and fell into the grass.
“He seized as people were trying to help him up, so we start calling for help," said concert-goer Anthony Mackey. Several fans formed a circle around Valadez to prevent him from being trampled and two men performed CPR on him.
Witnesses said it took 15 to 25 minutes for emergency personnel to get to Valadez and remove him from the scene.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet determined a cause of death.
Slipknot has not addressed the tragedy, which happened only weeks after frontman Corey Taylor stopped a show in San Bernardino, California to allow medics to get to fans injured in the mosh pit.
“No one is f**king getting hurt on my f**king watch, do you understand me?” he said. “Back the f**k up!”
The Knotfest Roadshow rolls into Toronto’s Budweiser Stage on Aug. 20.
