Musician-Producer Jason Slater Dies At 49
Musician and producer Jason Slater died Wednesday from liver failure at his home in Hawaii. He was 49.
Slater played bass on the first Third Eye Blind demo in 1993 but left the band before it recorded its debut album.
He went on to produce or co-produce four Queensrÿche albums between 2005 and 2013 and co-produced 2003’s Metafour by Montreal’s Slaves on Dope.
Slater co-founded industrial rock act Snake River Conspiracy with Eric Valentine and, with Luke Oakson, created short-lived rap rock project Brougham.
TMZ, which was first to report his death, quoted a rep for Third Eye Blind saying that band members had not spoken to Slater in 24 years but "when a spirited member of the music scene is taken too soon it is always a sad time."
