Nine Inch Nails gifted fans on Thursday with a whole lot of new music.
“Anybody out there? New Nine Inch Nails out now,” tweeted Trent Reznor. “Ghosts V-VI. Hours and hours of music. Free. Some of it happy, some of it not so much.”
Ghosts V: Together has eight tracks and Ghosts VI: Locusts has 15.
“Music – whether listening to it, thinking about it or creating it – has always been the thing that helped us get through anything – good or bad,” reads a message from Reznor and bandmate Atticus Ross on the group’s official website.
“With that in mind, we decided to burn the midnight oil and complete these new Ghosts records as a means of staying somewhat sane.”
NIN released Ghosts I-IV almost exactly 12 years ago. Their sixth studio album, it included “34 Ghosts IV,” which Lil Nas X sampled for his 2018 track “Old Town Road.”
NIN was set to be inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on May 2 – but the ceremony has been postponed due to COVID-19.
Reznor and Ross described the outbreak as “weird times indeed” and admitted they vacillate between “feeling like there may be hope at times to utter despair.”
The pair added: “Music has always had a way of making us feel a little less alone in the world... and hopefully it does for you, too. Remember, everyone is in this thing together and this too shall pass.
“Be smart and safe and take care of each other.”
