Paul McCartney Recalls How John Lennon Broke Up Beatles
Paul McCartney on Wednesday said once again it was John Lennon who brought The Beatles to an end.
“There was a meeting where John came in and said, ‘I’m leaving the group.’ And looking back on it, he’d reached that stage in his life,” McCartney said, during an interview with Howard Stern. “We all had.”
Fans have long blamed Lennon’s relationship with Yoko Ono for breaking up the band. McCartney admitted Ono was “intrusive” because she sat in on recording sessions, but insisted he understands that Lennon was in love.
“You’ve just got to respect that. So we did. And I do,” McCartney said.
Asked about ongoing debates about who wrote what, McCartney replied: “I know exactly what you mean, and it does get to be a total piss-off sometimes.
“But then, they’re still talking about me.”
