Rita Ora, John Legend Defend Parade Lip Syncing
Big name singers appearing on the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade TV special always lip-sync – but some technical glitches during this year’s broadcast made it more obvious than usual.
“During today’s NBC broadcast of the #MacysParade several recording artists experienced technical difficulties that negatively impacted their performance,” read a tweet from Macy’s. “We apologize and want fans to know these issues were out of the artist’s (sic) control.”
One of the those impacted was Rita Ora, who appeared to miss her cue during the parade and then found herself spending the U.S. holiday defending herself on Twitter.
“All my shows are 100 percent live always have been!,” she tweeted. “You know this girl doesn’t lip sync it’s not my world!”

John Legend also tried to educate viewers. “Fun fact. We all have to lip sync on this parade because the floats don't have the capacity to handle the sound requirements for a live performance. Hope y'all enjoyed it anyway. Know that if you come to my shows, the vocals are 100% live!”
Some viewers noted that legendary diva Diana Ross didn’t even bother to pretend like she was singing live.
