In its first 48 hours of release, Taylor Swift’s album Lover became the year’s top-selling album in the U.S.
Aided by collectible “deluxe” editions and its bundling with merchandise, it has surpassed the A Star Is Born soundtrack, which has sold 444,000 copies this year.
Nielsen Music data shows the singer’s seventh album, released Aug. 23, has already had the biggest sales week since Swift’s 2017 release reputation, which sold 1.2 million copies in its first week.

It is expected to debut at the top the Billboard 200 album chart with sales of around 700,000.
Nielsen Music calculates its numbers by combining traditional album sales with “streaming equivalent album” and “track equivalent album” units.
“This album is very much a celebration of love, in all its complexity, coziness, and chaos,” Swift tweeted on Friday. “It’s the first album of mine that I’ve ever owned, and I couldn’t be more proud. I’m so excited.”
