Tegan And Sara Accept Performing Arts Award

Calgary-born pop duo Tegan And Sara accepted the Governor General's Performing Arts Award on Friday in Ottawa.

The 37-year-old twins were recognized not only for their musical achievements but also for their LGBTQ advocacy work for rights and equality.

"It’s not an exaggeration to say we are so humbled and so proud to be Canadian and be here receiving this award," the pair tweeted. "A massive thank you to everyone who got us here."

At the gala, Lights paid tribute with a performance of the Tegan and Sara track "I Was a Fool."

Among those on hand to celebrate the award was Juno Awards president Allan Reid. "They are fierce, talented smart and caring," he later tweeted. "So very well deserved."
