WATCH: Harry Styles Frolics With Friends, Fruit In 'Watermelon Sugar' Video
Harry Styles released a video for “Watermelon Sugar” this week – and put to rest any lingering questions about the meaning of the song.
Shot in January, before COVID-19 social distancing, the video is cheekily “dedicated to touching.” There is plenty of that, indeed, as well as writhing and fruit-sharing – basically all the things we are not allowed to do with friends now or in the foreseeable future.
The vintage-looking video by Bradley & Pablo opens with Styles thrusting his face into a slice of the titular berry (yes, watermelons are berries) and moves on to show the singer seductively eating a strawberry (no, strawberries are not berries).
Most of the video is Styles frolicking and canoodling on a Malibu beach with a group of friends in colourful swimwear. It makes us yearn for human interaction and reminds us that summer is almost here.
The song, released last November ahead of Styles’ sophomore album Fine Line, was written by Styles with Mitch Rowland, Tyler Johnson and Thomas Hull.
