Lil Nas X’s new partnership with Wrangler has been met with calls by some country music fans for a boycott of the jeans company.
The rapper this week unveiled a capsule collection from Wrangler that includes jeans as well as denim shorts and jackets. The apparel was inspired by his smash hit “Old Town Road,” in which Lil Nas X raps about having “Wrangler on my booty.”
But, some country fans are not impressed.
"This makes me not want to buy wrangler jeans anymore tbh," one commented on social media. "the cowboy spirit is nothing to be made fun of." Another attacked Wrangler for not staying true to its core customers and trying “to appease [a] totally different audience that had to google what wrangler was.”
Calling the collection “nonsense,” one man wrote: "If you have any sense, you’ll stop production and burn what’s left.”

Others, though, are welcoming the Lil Nas X partnership and dismissing critics as racists. "I think I might buy my first pair of wrangler jeans," one person commented.
Wrangler is part of the VF Corporation, which owns a number of apparel and accessory brands including Timberland, The North Face and JanSport.
