Here we go on the backstretch of winter

Maple syrup festival

Well, here we go...on the backstretch of winter.. Toronto celebrates 186 and it's all about charity.

In Barrie...Skiing is fantastic with a ton of snow in ski country so conditions remain mid winter with 6 -6 ft bases. It's been a long winter with a record early start in November so we'll run out of skiers before run out of snow.  We'll keep you posted on conditions and events through month of March with reports on the Dave Trafford Show along with FYI on NEWSTALK1010.com.

I'm looking forward to this weekend..join me this Friday and Saturday at Hockley Valley in Caledon to win a $25 gift card from Pizzaville..spot the NEWSTALK Pizzaville Audi Etron to win...Hockley Valley is a hidden gem in the Caledon hills with a world class resort,  spa with indoor swimming pool, winery, conference center, meeting rooms, 6 restaurants including 5 star, skiing and golf.

Here's something special..Friday night is date night in the winery with live music at Adamo Estate Winery...right on the property..Wine and Unwind which is very popular.  The secret to Hockleys dining success is" farm to table" with a 2 acre fruit and vegetable garden right on the property....Local produce and local chefs.  Winter weddings are also very popular offering everything a bride and groom would need in the comfort of a first class luxury hotel.

Soon as you walk in the front doors you'll feel comfortable and welcome.  I travel the world every weekend to do my reports and experienced many 5 star resorts but I always feel welcome at Hockley...and it's close..just l hour north of the city so a piece of  cake to drive with no weekend traffic headaches... When arriving you'd never know Toronto is just l hour away.

March Break is just around the corner with a number of family specials for stay and play packages. Plus couples escape weekend later in month. I highly recommend Hockley Valley for a family holiday or romantic getaway. As you've heard their commercials on NEWSTALK....it's how we make you feel.

Okay elsewhere staying on the slopes... The Never Ever program makes its way to Snow Valley this weekend..$25 lift tix, rentals and group lesson with 10am and 3pm times both days.

As for events it's a big time for Toronto..186th Anniversary Festival at Nathan Philips Square all weekend..The theme..What our city has been..is..and will be..Over 90 vendors, live bands, food trucks with international cuisine, dancing and figure skating competitions..noon  to 8 each day.

Also in Toronto, it's the 34th annual Bicycle Show and E bike Expo at International Center in Mississauga..World's largest consumer show with all the latest and greatest along with a test track.

On Saturday it's the Waterfront Science Fair at Evergreen Brick Works celebrating national Engineer month...550 Bayview Ave in Toronto.

It's all about charity this weekend in Barrie with two events...6th annual Polar Rush at Horseshoe Valley and grown big time....now a 2 day event..world's largest winter obstacle event with teams competing for bragging rights over a 5 k trek...Over a 1000 competitors...Reg at 9 each morning with competition beginning 10-4.

At Centennial Beach it's "Freezin for a Reason"...Polar Bear Plunge for Special Olympics..it was covered by our sister TV network CTV last year with registration at noon then plunge at 1 right in the lake at Centennial Beach.

Oshawa is celebrating the season with annual Home Show at Tribute Community Center Sat and Sun. Winter Light Exhibition continues at Ontario Place along with Winter Stations at the Beaches.

And Maple Syrup Festivals are just starting to heat up with first run at many sugar bushes across the Province...flap jacks and sausages is a great way to start a family weekend and the weather looks perfect.

FYI is brought to you by Pizzaville..It's always party time..celebrate with 2 large stone baked pizzas...2 fresh toppings each..and 14 chicken poppers..$29.99..it's easy to order..#3636 on your cell or Pizzaville.ca. Have a fantastic weekend!
