Old Man Winter is back
Well, the month of March is marching right in with tons of new snow and return of colder weather...Old Man Winter is back...Thursdays big snowfall winner is Sir Sams in Haliburton with 26cms of fresh powder...Mt St Louis/Moonstone just north of Barrie along with Horseshoe Valley clock in at 20.
Every area of ski country received anywhere between 10-20 cms, so we're guaranteed a great March break and beyond. All 20 downhill resorts are open along with 8 cross country.
Just a couple of ski notes..it's another big weekend at Blue Mt following last weekends successful 24hrs at Blue fund raiser for Special Olympics and local hospital. $150,000 was raised which is double from last year.
This weekend it's the Alpine Snow TKO Snowboard World Cup. Boarders from around the world will compete with qualifiers each morning at 10 and finals on both days at 1. If you're not a skier there's always something cool to do at Blue Mt Village with boutique shops, restaurants and a mini sled ride down the mountain. Over 3,000 rooms makes staying overnight a breeze. It's always a fun place for the entire family.
At Mt St Louis/Moonstone it's the National Freestyle Championships featuring North America's best free stylers on Sunday. Spectators are welcome at both resorts and watch for the NEWSTALK Pizzaville Audi Etron at both events to win a $25 gift card from Pizzaville. Okay elsewhere it's a busy weekend for Festivals...It's 50 years and counting for Dwight Winter Carnvial on Saturday...Everything kicks off with a pancake breakfast, a chili cookoff at noon then a full day of family events...all winding up with a big Italian dinner and dance at night.
Snowmobile races are popular and fun community events..Sledapalooza in Parry Sound on Saturday with live bands, Harley Davidson Ice Stunts, dog races and more at Verner Hwy 64.
1st Annual Midland Sledfest also takes place on Saturday from 11-3 on Little Lake Park.
Orillia will be busy hosting the Ontario Winter Games all week at various locations in town.
Plenty of events closer to the city...Royal Botanical Gardens is featuring Winter Exhibit.
Wildlife Rescue along with the country's biggest Orchid display..Spring Show and Sale with Orchid societies from across North America all weekend at 680 Plains Rd in Burlington.
Canada's largest RV Show takes place at the International Center in Mississauga with everything from the newest RV's to travel and accessories... over 5 halls so it's huge...Sat and Sun.
Newmarket is getting into the newest trend with Craft Beer Festival on Saturday...1st annual and it's family friendly with a number of events on the Riverwalk including skating along with indoor games... and while you're there drop by one of the coolest restaurants in town..Joia on Main St overlooking the skating rink and band shell. Joia is famous for Italian food in Aurora now in Newmarket.
