Elderly woman dies of blunt force trauma in Mississauga; suspect in custody

Peel police cruiser

An 88-year-old woman was killed from blunt force trauma at a Mississauga home early Tuesday night, in what is Peel Region's 17th homicide of the year.

Cst. Akhil Mooken says the attack happened around 6:15 p.m. at a home on Shelby Crescent.

The woman was sent to hospital in life-threatening condition, but eventually died of her injuries.

"The suspect in this incident is a 52-year-old man and he has surrendered himself," Mooken said, only saying the suspect and victim were known to each other.

Neighbours told CP24 that while it's a quiet area, police have been called to the home before.

It's not clear how many people lived inside the home and Mooken said there are no other suspects.
