Mayor John Tory revealed on NEWSTALK 1010's The Rush on Wednesday afternoon he's asked the federal government to extend a helping hand to commercial landlords.

"I'm hopeful the federal government is going to come along ... with a program to backstop landlords," Tory says.

He says the idea would be to help landlords that want to make accomodations for enterprise tenants, like restaurants and shops.

Tory goes on to say that he's approached the provincial government and requested that it implement a ban on evicting business tenants.

The Mayor says measures like these could provide a lifeline for small buisnesses that are on the bring of bankruptcy.
