One GTA resident is dead, another missing after a boating accident near Peterborough
One person is dead, a second person is missing after a fishing boat reportedly capsized on Chemong Lake, near Peterborough.
Emergency crews were called to the dock area at the end of Chemong Street South, in Curve Lake First Nation, around 6:40 a.m. Sunday morning.
Police say three people - a male and two females - were rescued from the water, but the male victim later died in hospital.
"Reports were that a fishing boat had capsized and there was four occupants in the water. Officers attended and were assisted by members of Curve Lake First Nation. They were able to pull three of the occupants to shore. They've been transported to hospital. One has been pronounced deceased. One has life-threatening injuries and one has minor injuries," said Constable Joe Ayotte, with Peterborough County OPP.
Police say all of the victims are from the Greater Toronto Area.
The OPP's marine unit and local firefighters continue to search for the missing boater, who is said to be the owner of the vessel.
The OPP's underwater search and recovery dive team is also on scene.
