WATCH: Man accused of homophobic attack at Newmarket drive-thru
A 33-year-old man is facing charges after what police describe as a hate-motivated assault involving homophobia.
York Regional Police say the incident took place in a restaurant parking lot in Newmarket on Sunday afternoon.
They allege a man was sitting in a vehicle baring a rainbow logo when a man drove by and yelled a homophobic slur.
Police say the victim confronted the man, who allegedly assaulted him causing minor injuries and broke his cellphone.
The suspect left the scene, but police say they arrested him at his home in East Gwillimbury later in the day.
The man is now charged with one count each of assault and mischief and is due in court next month.
