Essex-Kent Golf Tournament Set For Roseland

The 92nd Annual Essex/Kent Golf Tournament gets underway this coming Monday at Roseland Golf and Curling Club.

The longest running event of its kind in the country started back in 1927, and has always been free.

Over 24,000 kids have participated in the tournament, which is to introduce kids between 8 and 16 to the sport.

The three day event begins first thing Monday morning, with three divisions, the shortie course for 8 and 9 year olds, novice, and senior play for those between 13 and 16.

Tournament organizer, Bernie Grabowicki says they still need volunteers.

"Volunteers that we need are walking scorers with the novice players," says Grabowicki. "The little ones still need somebody to count their strokes. They just loose tract of where they are."

Grabowicki adds it's easy for kids to apply to play in the tournament.

"Log on to www.ekgolf and there's an entry form there they just put in their information and sometimes it may take a day or two until they see their name on the entry list."

The three day event wraps up Wednesday with all the match-play finals.
