Kite Fest Coming to Essex

Go fly a kite — literally in Essex.

Downtown Essex Centre is hosting its first ever Kite Fest this weekend.

Manager of Recreation and Culture Cynthia Cakebread says the town felt it would be a fun, unique family-friendly event and a great way to end the summer.

"We just thought it was a unique approach to be done on a relatively smaller scale," she says.  "It was something interesting, it has got a lot of historical interests to it. It has been around a long time and we know that it is one of those events that people flock to and be able to enjoy one of our beautiful outdoor parks."

The event is free.

"They can absolutely bring any of their own kites, but we have an entire kite making kit and kite flying kit as well as crafts and activities that revolve around the kite theme," says Cakebread.

It is set for Saturday, September 21 from 11am to 2pm at the Heritage Gardens and Essex Railway Station, weather permitting.
